Kindness Play-Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum!

The Godwin School Players performed their version of Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes for the 3rd Annual Kindness Play.  The School Safety Team selected this activity to meet its goals for the 2016 survey.  The second grade students take the School Climate Survey every spring, and after dissecting the survey results, action plans are created to remediate areas of concern.

The idea for the school Kindness Play was generated two years ago and continued because of its effectiveness.  Past performances include One by Kathryn Otoshi and The Recess Queen by Alexis O’Neill.  Student discussions, learning activities and home connections typically accompany each performance to facilitate retention.  The plays become a reference point when discussing kindness, respect, fairness, tolerance, and teasing, just to name a few.

In the coming weeks, each class will “Make Kindness Grow” with a planting activity.  We want to spread Kindness throughout Godwin School and create a safe environment where students can learn and grow
