Health Opt-Out Letter (Grade 2)

Dear Godwin School Families,
I hope the summer has been an enjoyable one filled with vacations, family time and memory making.  As the 2023-24 school year approaches, I wanted to provide some information about the new health curriculum being implemented in grade 2.  The New Jersey Learning Standards are written in grade bans, therefore, the content in the health curriculum needs to be taught by the end of grade 2.  Here at Godwin School, we have determined that these standards are more appropriate for second graders.  This content will not be taught in grades kindergarten or first.
The attached letter will identify the specific topics being taught in grade 2 and how to opt out, if desired.  The K-2 Health Curriculum will be reviewed by the Curriculum Committee and presented for approval at the next Board Meeting.  Upon approval, the curriculum will be posted on the Godwin School Website.
If you decide to opt out of the identified topics, fill out the second page and return it to your child's classroom teacher.  Please do not email it to the principal or the school secretary.  The classroom teachers will collect all forms at the beginning of the school year.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact me by phone or email.
Thank you,
